New Leadership Elected; Honors Bestowed

Outgoing PCC president Jane Canepa ducks an errant swing of the gavel from incoming co-president Jeff Bierig. David Brimm, behind Jane, is the other incoming co-president.

Jeff Bierig and David Brimm, two veteran PCC members who both have served two previous terms as PCC president, are combining forces to lead the club for the 2001-2002 year.

Bierig and Brimm were elected co-presidents at the club's official annual board June 27. They take over the gavel from Jane Canepa, retiring after a year as PCC president.

In addition, three people were named to the PCC board to fill open or expired positions. They are:

  • Kerry J. Caba

  • Monica Kasley

  • Drew Morissee

Kudos to Stewart, Lehrer and

At PCC's June luncheon meeting awards were presented to Jill Stewart, Jerry Ostergaaard and Jonathan Lehrer for their efforts on the club’s behalf.

Stewart and Ostergaard were awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Stewart, Program Chair of PCC, was cited for her PCC programming creativity, while Ostergarrd was recognized for his exemplary efforts as chair of the Education Committee.

Lehrer received the PubClubber Award, PCC’s highest honor, for his dedication and tireless work developing and maintaining the PCC website, www.publicity.org.

Plans for the Coming Year

Jeff Bierig is media relations manager of the Chicago Tribune, where he has worked for the past 18 years.

During the 2001-2002 club year, says Bierig, "we hope to involve as many members in PCC activities as possible. The real value of the PCC is in the benefits it gives its members. We are a volunteer organization that needs to bring more volunteers into the fold. While running a committee may be a daunting task, doing one activity a year for a committee should be much more palatable."

David Brimm, president of the north suburban public relations firm BrimmComm, says PCC needs hard work and involvement from all members to help the club succeed. "We appreciate your cooperation in advance and hope to maintain and enhance the PCC's reputation for its programming, educational activities and award programs."
