Metro Strategies Group seeks a dynamic, versatile and driven Project Manager with experience supporting local, state and regional planning and infrastructure projects. The position will work collaboratively to support a diverse portfolio of clients and projects spanning transportation, infrastructure, environmental planning and economic development. Candidates must be ready to work on high-impact projects that shape communities across the Chicago region and state. The ideal candidate should have proven experience in successfully managing and implementing client initiatives. Experience working with the public sector on policy, transportation, engagement and community issues is preferred. Must be able to travel to client locations throughout northeastern Illinois.
Responsibilities:
Project Leadership & Strategy
- Manage day-to-day project execution with precision and creativity.
- Track progress, manage timelines and ensure deliverables meet high standards.
- Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to understand needs and recommend strategic solutions.
- Offer innovative ideas and recommendations that drive success and exceed expectations.
Client & Team Engagement
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops and focus groups that foster collaboration and insight.
- Communicate clearly and effectively across all levels of engagement.
Content & Research
- Develop compelling deliverables—reports, presentations, fact sheets, executive briefings and more.
- Conduct research on policy, planning and community issues to inform project direction.
- Work with graphic designers to produce polished, public-facing materials.
Quality & Innovation
- Implement project quality assurance and quality control plans.
- Monitor and stay ahead of trends and best practices to bring fresh ideas to every project.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000 depending on qualifications. The starting salary will depend on the level of prior relevant experience a candidate has.

Requirements
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Superior writing, interpersonal and communication skills—able to distill complex ideas into clear, engaging content.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize a variety of projects.
- A collaborative spirit and proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Flexibility, organization and self-sufficiency in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with clients on community-focused initiatives.
- Consulting experience and familiarity with Chicago-area issues are a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, urban planning, communications or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
